NFL Week 5 Odds: Giants host the Eagles

The 2013 NFL regular season enters the month of October with a number of great matchups on the Week 5 schedule. While there are no ‘must-win’ games this time of year, there are more than a few teams that probably feel that way heading into this Sunday’s action. The following is a look at 5Dimes’ early betting lines for some of these contests.

The New York Giants were preseason favorites to win the NFC East this season, but a shocking 0-4 start has put those plans in serious doubt. They will try and get off the schneid this Sunday as 1-point favorites at home against the struggling 1-3 Philadelphia Eagles, who are riding a three-game losing streak of their own into this divisional clash. The total for this game has been set at 53.5.

Things are not what they seem in the NFC North as well. The Detroit Lions have jumped out to an early lead at 3-1 after a huge win over Chicago this past Sunday, while the perennial favorite Green Bay Packers are coming off a bye at 1-2. The Packers have been opened as 7.5-point favorites for this contest with the total set at 52.

Miami got a harsh dose of reality this past Monday night in a 38-17 loss to New Orleans after starting the season with three straight wins. The defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens fell to 2-2 on the year after suffering a 23-20 setback to Buffalo in Week 4. Both teams will try and get back on track this Sunday when these two AFC foes clash in Miami. The Dolphins have been opened as 3-point favorites and the total has been set at 43.5.

In what some people still may see as a potential Super Bowl preview, the 2-2 Houston Texans travel to the west coast to face the 2-2 San Francisco 49ers in a battle of two teams still searching for their past form. The 49ers have been opened as 8-point home favorites with the total set at 42.5.

Another matchup between two teams that could potentially meet again this season pits the 4-0 Seattle Seahawks against the AFC South leading Indianapolis Colts, who ran their record to 3-1 last week with a 37-3 pasting of Jacksonville. The Seahawks have won their first two games on the road this season and they have been opened as slight 1-point favorites for this road game. The total for this inter-conference clash has been set at 43.5.
